We are looking for a **Gene Therapy Downstream Process Sciences Scientist** (PhD fresh graduated) to join us in our **Gene Therapy Process Development** team, in **Belgium.**
**About the role**
The **Gene Therapy (GT) Downstream Process Sciences Scientist** will be responsible for **supporting Downstream Process Development activities for UCB’s recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) gene therapy products**. This individual will be accountable for design and execution of process development, characterization, and tech transfer of rAAV purification processes.

Elise Huang** as your Manager as well as many others direct colleagues from different backgrounds supporting the establishment and operation of a development and manufacturing facility for gene therapy products.
**What you’ll do**:
- Leveraging on your background in chemistry, develop an understanding of how the different attributes of a chromatography medium impact mass transport of different chemical and biological entities.
- Develop an understanding of AAV physical and chemical properties to improve downstream purification process.
- Independently design and execute experiments while seeking inputs from peers.
- Analyze, document and present regularly with a focus on problem-solving to downstream team members.
- From a holistic point of view, assess risk and error deviations from all process aspects regardless of technology and operation constrain.
- Innovate and build our knowledge base on AAV process technologies.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional laboratories and external CDMOs.
- Author & review technical documents including process descriptions, study designs, SOPs, technical position papers, & technical reports.
**I**nterested? For this role we’re looking for the following** **education, experience** **and **skills**
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields with emphasis on interfacial phenomena studies.
- Ideally 1 to 2 years of industrial experience with biomolecules (amino acids, peptides, proteins, virus, cells, or more), no previous experience is required.
- Strong scientific understanding of factors affecting mass transport across different media (e.g. miscibility, molecular dynamic simulation, etc).
- Scientific understanding on fundamentals of biological entities (virus, proteins, DNA, etc) and interfacial sciences.
- Technical knowledge of chromatography and/or membrane filtration.
- Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation and basic separation techniques.
- Experience with data and statistical analysis.
- Experience with python or other programming language.
- Very good command in English, both spoken and written.
