About Marketing & Business Development (MBD)
MBD is a dynamic global team which includes business development specialists, research analysts, brand, marketing and communications experts. By working collaboratively, our team shapes the firm’s client strategy, completes analysis of complex business issues, targets opportunities, develops compelling proposals and creates content and marketing campaigns that lead our digital presence. The Antitrust, Competition and Trade (ACT) MBD team leads strategic positioning, visibility and client service activities for the world’s preeminent antitrust and competition practice. Role summary/purpose of job
This role will be responsible for initiating, managing and coordinating a broad range of marketing and business development activities for the US ACT Group, which includes our antitrust, antitrust litigation, CFIUS and aviation regulatory groups. The role requires excellent teamworking and communication skills as well as the ability to build strong, trusted relationships with partners and senior internal stakeholders and to work collaboratively with brand, marketing, communications, research and other business services across our global firm. The Manager will have experience in working for an elite global firm in a fast-paced, professional, and client-focused environment. The role requires broad experience with legal or other professional services business development activities and initiatives and the know-how to operationalize and execute across multiple practice areas, sectors and geographies. A successful candidate will have specialized expertise in all aspects of business development, such as pitching, marketing/thought leadership campaigns, content or credentials creation, directory submissions, or key account client relationship management.

Key responsibilities and deliverables
The manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Execute focused marketing and business development activities that strengthen relationships with existing clients, targets and positions the partners to win new work effectively and builds the global reputation of the ACT practice.
  2. Create targeted pitches/proposals and managing all aspects of RFP/RFI response, as well as developing/managing related resources and materials, including practice descriptions, experience lists, and a broad range of other types of marketing collateral.
  3. Develop and execute strategies around thought leadership content and events in order to increase engagement with priority clients and enhance the personal brands of leading practitioners, as well as the firm’s global reputation.
  4. Lead the execution around practice-related awards and preparing submissions for individuals and teams, as well as managing related directory and research guide submissions.
  5. Researching, evaluating and coordinating speaking and sponsorship opportunities.
  6. Manage the tracking of the success of pitching and other business development activities and analysing and reporting on results.
  7. Capture and communicate key information from strategy, planning and prep sessions and manage the tracking of such information in the firm’s CRM system.
  8. Manage the practice’s web presence, including drafting and updating practice-related content.
  9. Use business/competitive intelligence, news sources, as well as internal data, in identifying trends and developments impacting the firm’s ACT practice; broadening our understanding of the needs of current and target clients; and pinpointing/supporting specific cross-selling opportunities.
  10. Delivering on workstreams related to lateral partner integration including introductions to clients, visibility events and thought leadership, trip-related events and integration of new skills into pitches and practice materials.
  11. Attend practice group meetings, as well as initiating following-up on relevant action items arising from those discussions.

Key requirements (Communication/skills/experience)
The ideal candidate will have at least 11 years of marketing and business development experience working with an antitrust or regulatory practice at a law firm, or have relevant experience in another closely related professional services environment. Candidates must have a strong client service focus, outstanding communication and inter-personal skills, and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization. Strong writing and communications skills. Excellent analytical skills are required, as well as the demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple, complex and time sensitive projects. Strong emotional intelligence and situational awareness; An outstanding track record of generating creative and effective ideas and of working with/motivating/influencing others to implement them; Experience successfully working internationally - across offices and cultures; The ability to build strong working relationships with partners and other professionals in a complex, matrixed environment; Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and CRM programs is expected.
