Your Profile:
- You are pursuing your master’s in mechanical or acoustical engineering, with a strong interest in cars and sound/acoustics
- You have a background in structural dynamics (including modal analysis) and acoustics Knowledge of Noise & vibration testing (Testlab) and simulation (Nastran) is an advantage
- You have some affinity with mathematical and physical modelling, and scientific scripting in Python
- You have a good English capability and you are eager to work in a multi-cultural environment

Your team and your responsibilities:
TME R&D centre is responsible for planning, development and production support of vehicles aimed at - and locally produced for - the European market.
The “NV & Driveability” team is part of the Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) division and is responsible for the vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and harshness) according to EU customer expectations. We aim at the development of attractive and “fun to drive“ cars matching European market requirements and customer expectations. Using state-of-the art experimental and numerical methods, we develop strategies to achieve the targets, and validate them on virtual and physical prototypes.
**Your project**:
**Title: “Road noise: mechanism investigation and validation through CAE”**
Tire rolling noise or road noise is one of the main sources of noise in modern cars. Moreover, with the increased share of hybrid and electric vehicles, the impact of road noise to perceived customer comfort is expected to increase even further. In order to achieve a low level of road noise in the vehicle cabin, the forces and vibrations entering the vehicle body through the suspension have to be minimised. An important aspect is the control of the different modes in the tire, wheel and suspension.
You will contribute to an ongoing research project where the main goal is to build a detailed understanding of the different modes in a typical car suspension, how they contribute to the force transmission, and how they can be controlled through specific properties of the components involved. You will:
- Optimize the existing procedures for component/subassembly mode assessment, to reduce measurement time and improve robustness
- Validate findings and support component/subassembly development trough CAE software, by means of optimization algorithm
- Confirm findings by physical component/subassembly updates
