Thales Belgium SA, Belgium competence center of Thales, is a company located on 2 sites, one in Tubize (near Brussels) and the other one in Herstal (near Liège). Thales Belgium, which employs more than 280 collaborators, is specialized in the design, development and supply of critical information systems for customers in the sectors of Defense, Security (including Cyber) and Aerospace.
**Hospital attack scenario creation**:
***Mission**:
The primary objective of your internship, focused on "Topology Creation around Hospital World to Hack a Health Device," is to delve deeply into the intricate realm of hacking connected medical devices. This entails exploring the vulnerabilities and potential attack vectors that could compromise the security of these critical devices within a hospital environment.
Your mission is twofold: to establish the state-of-the-art of this topic and to envision and construct a meticulously designed network topology within our cyber range, and to leverage this topology for the purpose of simulated hacking scenarios targeting health devices.
**Key Responsibilities**:
1. Exploring Medical Device Vulnerabilities: You will embark on an investigative journey to understand the vulnerabilities inherent in connected medical devices. This involves researching and analyzing potential weak points, ranging from device interfaces to communication protocols, that might be exploited by malicious actors seeking unauthorized access.
2. Conceptualizing Hacking Scenarios: Building on your understanding of vulnerabilities, you will engage in creative thinking to conceptualize hacking scenarios. These scenarios will serve as the foundation for the development of attack simulations. Your role is to craft plausible and intricate scenarios that challenge the security of health devices within a hospital network.
3. Network Topology Design: With the hacking scenarios in mind, you will proceed to design a highly detailed and realistic network topology. This topology should mirror the digital landscape of a hospital, incorporating medical devices, servers, communication nodes, and other pertinent elements. Your designs should reflect the complexities of real-world healthcare network layouts.
4. Virtual Scenario Implementation: Once the network topology is meticulously designed, you will transition to the practical implementation phase. This entails the adept utilization of advanced simulation tools and technologies to bring the virtual hospital world to life. Your deep understanding of network protocols and cybersecurity principles will be pivotal in ensuring the realism and effectiveness of these simulations.
5. Conducting Hacking Simulations: Your primary mission is to employ the created network topology for conducting hacking simulations. These simulations should align with the scenarios you've conceptualized, challenging the security measures of health devices. This hands-on experience will allow you to gain insights into the techniques used by malicious actors and the vulnerabilities that require fortification.
6. Testing and Analysis: As hacking simulations unfold, you will actively participate in rigorous testing and analysis. This will involve assessing the effectiveness of security measures, identifying vulnerabilities, and scrutinizing responses to various attack scenarios. Your analytical skills will be pivotal in uncovering potential weaknesses within the network.
7. Documentation and Reporting: Meticulous documentation is paramount throughout your internship. You will maintain meticulous records encompassing the design, implementation, and outcomes of hacking simulations. Additionally, you will compile comprehensive reports that encapsulate your findings, observations, and recommendations. Clear and well-structured documentation is essential for future reference and for effectively conveying insights to the project team and stakeholders.

General profile of the student: Master/Bachelor in IT Security/ IT Engineer:
- IT knowledge: Computer hardware, software, networking fundamentals, Windows, Linux and Kali Linux
- Cybersecurity fundamentals (OS, Web, Network)
- Ethical hacking and penetration testing
- Familiarity with ethical hacking (recon, vulnerability analysis, exploitation, and post-exploitation techniques)
- Knowledge of common hacking tools and platform
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and in a team.
