1 MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

United by our passion for the ocean, the Oceans Practice is a community of over 600 WWF marine conservation and fisheries experts working across 60 countries. This community is supported by a coordination team, tasked with promoting coordinated conservation action, establishing strategic partnerships, building consensus on key policy issues, coordinating policy advocacy, raising funds and facilitating peer-to-peer learning.

2 MAJOR FUNCTIONS

For more than a decade, WWF has advocated for protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030, a target formally adopted by UN member states in the Global Biodiversity Framework in December 2022. With 8.4% of the ocean currently protected, this represents a commitment to more than triple the extent of marine protected and conserved areas (MPCAs) by 2030.

To capitalise on this historic opportunity, marine conservation experts from across the WWF network are working together to advance the establishment and effective management of MPCA networks at the national, regional and international level.

WWF is now seeking a Global Lead, Ocean Habitats to support coordinated action and increased impact by WWF offices seeking to advance the establishment and effective management of MPCA networks in collaboration with partners and coastal communities.

3 Major

**Responsibilities**:

- Work with experts across the WWF network to develop, coordinate and advocate for advancing the designation and effective implementation of marine 30x30.
- Provide leadership to facilitate the development of WWF’s marine 30x30 strategy including network and partner collaboration, fundraising plans and impact evaluation.
- Lead and facilitate coordinated action to advance marine 30x30 by the Oceans Practice and WWF network in accordance with the strategy developed.
- Lead, convene and effectively manage the Oceans Practice marine 30x30 WG.
- Facilitate effective communication of WWF marine 30x30 priorities, in close collaboration with the Oceans Practice Communications Manager.
- Work with WWF Ocean Policy Manager, High Seas Treaty lead and relevant Global Initiative leads to advance WWF’s marine 30x30 priorities across multiple fora.
- Support an integrated approach to advancing the delivery of marine 30x30 across WWF practices, ACAIs and network.
- Support the development of network capacity to advance an effective marine 30x30.
- Maintain the internal WWF marine 30x30 platform to support knowledge exchange and peer to peer learning in collaboration with the Oceans Practice Knowledge Manager.
- Support the development of strategic funding proposals as needed.

4 PROFILE

Required Qualifications
- University qualifications in conservation science, policy, law, economic or another relevant discipline (or equivalent professional experience).

Required Skills and Competencies
- Excellent understanding of marine 30x30 landscape of actors, initiatives, policy, governance and management.
- Strong knowledge of marine conservation issues.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate international teams located across multiple locations.
- Proven experience of working with different cultures.
- Ability to work effectively in a matrix organisation.
- Excellent command of English; other languages will be considered an asset.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Embraces the WWF mission and values of the organisation: Courage, Integrity, Respect and Collaboration.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
- Legal right to work in the relevant host country (see below).

5 WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal

Reports to Oceans Practice Lead. Close working relationships with Oceans Practice Policy Manager, Communications Manager and Knowledge Manager, as well as relevant thematic leads, national and regional focal points and members of the WWF Oceans 30x30 Working Group.

External

Conservation partners, donors and policy makers.
