Our client is a financial institution that seeks to support the private sector in developing countries by making investments in local companies.
As Investment Officer, you will develop, structure and monitor the financing of infrastructure projects. These include projects in energy, water access, logistics and transport, and telecommunications in developing markets (Africa, Asia, Latin America). You will also help to monitor portfolio investments, working with a motivated team in a friendly atmosphere. Our client is looking for someone with an excellent knowledge of financial transactions and instruments, as well as a good command of Dutch, French, English and/or Spanish.
**Description**
- You identify investments in line with the company's investment strategy by examining the economic, technical, legal, social and environmental parameters of investment opportunities, possibly in coordination with experts.
- You lead the project through the entire investment cycle, including pre-approvals, field due diligence, preparation of investment reports and memos for the investment committee or management, negotiation of investment terms, legal documentation, disbursement and handover to the portfolio team.
- Throughout the investment process, you ensure close collaboration with members of the deal team (E&S, Development, Legal, Portfolio Officers) and with stakeholders (Belgian embassies, external consultants, etc.).
- You establish and manage a prospect/client base, through a deep understanding of target countries, building relationships with sponsors and the infrastructure ecosystem (such as third-party marketers, like-minded investors) and active prospecting.
- You promote and strengthen collaboration in partner countries to continually improve relationships with local players, potential partners and stakeholders.
- You actively participate in relevant investment and networking conferences, if possible as a speaker or panel member.
- You participate in the implementation of the department's strategy.
- You generate a pipeline for more junior Generalist IOs and Infra IOs.
- You develop internal skills and capabilities within the team, for example by developing and sharing knowledge on key areas of interest to the team.
- You are actively involved in internal and cross-functional topics to optimize and continuously improve the team's tools, processes, systems, standards and policies.
**Profile**
- Higher education in Business Administration, Economics or Finance;
- 5 years' relevant professional experience in corporate finance or corporate banking, credit analysis in a bank, investment company or audit firm;
- Analytical and critical mind, organized, meticulous and autonomous;
- Self-starter, quick learner and results-oriented;
- Strong networking, negotiation and communication skills (oral and written);
- Strong team spirit;
- Fluency in Dutch and/or French and English is mandatory, and Spanish is an asset;
- Strong affinity with impact investing and developing markets - first experience in the region is an asset;
- Willingness to travel: ± 15% of time.
