For one of our clients at the European Parliament, the House of European History, we are hiring a Project Curator with proven experience in working in museums/cultural institutions:

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a small cross department team responsible for the conceptualisation, development, and delivery of the temporary exhibition

Living Legacies:
Facing Europe's Colonial Past

  • Help to develop the main messages within a given section(s) of the exhibition.
  • Identify the objects, images, artworks, sound clips to be used to illustrate these messages.
  • Communicate and liaise with museums and collections across Europe and beyond and with private collections in order to realise the delivery of the exhibition.
  • Enter content into the museum database.
  • Work with the eventual exhibition designers to develop given section(s) of the exhibition.
  • Project manage micro research topics as they arise.
  • Perform the necessary administrative tasks as part of the project team to ensure the delivery of the exhibition on time and in an organised manner.

Skills:

  • A proven expertise on transnational European history, with particular emphasis on colonialism, decolonisation, and colonial memory.
  • The ability to conduct and deliver detailed and high quality historical research on an identified topic.
  • The capacity to complete object, picture, documentary research.
  • The ability to write concise and engaging exhibition texts and audiovisual scripts in English.
  • The capacity to identify and work with personal testimonies and oral histories in an exhibition context.
  • Our client's requirements for data management, data protection and information systems.
  • The requirements and operation of the Institution specialist software and IT systems.

Experience and qualifications:

  • A postgraduate qualification in European history, museum studies, or a related discipline. PhD level desirable.
  • At least 4 years' Experience working in a museum setting including exhibition development, and knowledge of museum operations, policies, and standards.
  • Excellent team member and communication skills, able to work independently and with a variety of people with different skill sets and from different disciplines. Selfmotivated, openminded, and a fast learner.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under stress while providing quality work and meeting deadlines.
  • Proven ability in managing exhibition projects, including touring exhibitions and museum collections management systems.
  • Working knowledge of data architectures, metadata standards, imaging and digital asset management software required.
  • Results driven, flexible approach, diplomatic, problems solver, work collaboratively, work under pressure, decisionmaking.
