**Job Summary**
The Payroll Specialist position has various responsibilities. The Payroll Specialist position supports the supervisor by assisting with the control of Health, Welfare, and Pension (HWP) payments to the various locals and conferences throughout the UPS network. He/She also assists with internal and external audits and process improvement efforts. The position performs analytics related to Vacation, Excused Absence, and Holiday payments which requires extensive contractual pay rate and entitlement knowledge.
**Responsibilities**:
- Analyzes relevant data (e.g., costs, quality performance reviews, variances, etc.) to generate reports.
- Extracts data (e.g., employee headcount, costs, payroll, etc.) to prepare reports and to consolidate and compare data.
- Prepares spreadsheets and forms to generate reports (e.g., cost variance analysis, balance sheet variance analysis, etc.).

- Extracts data (e.g., employee headcount, costs, payroll, etc.) to prepare reports and to consolidate and compare data.
- Prepares spreadsheets and forms to generate reports (e.g., cost variance analysis, balance sheet variance analysis, etc.).
- Provides information (e.g., vendor information to Health, Welfare & Pension, banking information to Payroll, cost queries to districts, etc.) to ensure the absence of fraudulent activity.
- Communicates with the bank to initiate stop payments on lost payroll checks and ensure checks have not been paid out.
- Responds to payroll procedural questions, as well as researches and resolves payroll problems and discrepancies to meet the request of managers and staff.
- Processes weekly and monthly payrolls to ensure timely payment to employees.
- Maintains knowledge of union practices to remain in compliance with contracts regarding payroll processing of payments.
- Maintains knowledge of tax rules and laws that govern payroll administration to ensure in compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
- Prepares processor profiles to monitor progress, hours worked, and cost savings.
- Coordinates special projects to review data and processes and increase efficiency, cost savings, and effectiveness.
**Qualifications**:
- 2-3 years relevant experience
- University degree (Finance, Economics, etc.); preferably MBA
- Demonstrates a broad business and accounting knowledge; describes methods in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Basic understanding of traditional labor legislation; demonstrates an ability to identify general instances of discrimination and other non-compliant employment practices.
- Experience demonstrating proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Products ( Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
- Creative and logical thinker; strategic mind set
- Structured approach; process oriented; able to prioritize
- Deductive reasoning skills; able to translate findings into conclusions and recommendations
- Strong work ethic and high degree of accuracy; eye for detail; accountable
- Perform well under pressure; ability to meet tight & continuous deadlines
- Inquisitive personality; strong desire to learn; ability to probe effectively
- Able to build strong relationships with both internal and external business partners
- Fluency in written and spoken English, other languages are an advantage
