Context of the hiring:

The role exists to optimise the start-up phase of major projects within KI executed by KI Engineering.

The role is applicable to new glass mineral wool (GMW) or rock mineral wool (RMW) lines on sites new to KI or major new lines on existing KI sites where there is a specific need to support the existing site team during the start-up phase.

On new KI sites (greenfield or brownfield) the start-up Manager is responsible for operations on site during the start-up phase including safety and compliance, asset integrity, operations, performance, product quality and costs of the start-up.

The start-up phase is defined as the period between first production until such time as the site team is deemed capable of running the new line / process / operation in a safe and sustainable way and in accordance with a defined efficiency / output level.


The scope of the role also includes integration of newly acquired KI sites including overseeing the implementation of standard KI technologies where applicable and managing the site until the local team are integrated and trained.


Your mission & responsibilities:

-
Takes full site responsibility during the start-up phase of major projects (as defined above) working in conjunction with other members of the Manufacturing Expansion team by sharing the on site workload.
-
Helps the Manufacturing Expansion team to integrate newly acquired sites into KI by supporting the implementation and start-up of KI standard technologies where applicable and guiding the new team to introduce standard KI working methods / processes and procedures until the new site is staffed and trained to continue operations in a safe and sustainable way.
-
Provides guidance to the on-site team during the start-up phase so that it can take over accountability for the site / operation in line with an agreed schedule.
-
Selects / recruits the start-up support
team. Plans the support team scope and schedule and directs the team on site. The start-up support team comprises process experts from relevant central functions as well as experienced operational personnel from other KI facilities.
-
Participates actively in the project design reviews and helps to ensure that process experts who will support the start-up are included.
-
Plays a leading role in the planning and execution of training for all personnel employed on the new line / process / site. Identifies the minimum level of training to be completed prior to start-up and ensures this is completed prior to production start. Monitors training post start-up and ensures completion in line with the plan.

  • Oversees the creation of standard operating instructions for all aspects of the new process and ensures that these are used and updated during the startup phase as well as being the basis for the operator training.
  • Prepares
    a startup schedule for the first weeks of operation taking into account often conflicting needs such product certification requirements, learning curve of operational staff and market needs.
  • Ensures that a
    Pre-StartUp Safety Review (PSSR) is completed prior to start up and that resultant actions are closed out in a timely manner. This includes identification and close out of those actions necessary to be completed prior to startup.
  • Coordinates activities to ensure that startup needs which are not the responsibility of the Capex Project Manager and team are progressed in line with startup needs and plans. These activities include IT and OT readiness, maintenance readiness (spare parts and maintenance routines) and Continuous Improvement (CI) readiness.
  • Ensures that a
    positive safety culture is established and maintained on site during the startup phase.
  • Creates and distributes a weekly
    startup report
:

  • Provides ongoing support and guidance to the site team post startup phase including periodic visits to site as required.

Key performance indicators:

  • Ramp up in Overall Equipment Efficiency in line with the business case and / or ramp up plan.
  • Ramp up of production output which conforms to the required quality and certification requirements during the startup phase.
  • Safety performance during startup phase.
  • Budget adherence during startup phase.
  • Training plan creation and completion.

Your profile:

  • Proven track record of management of a GMW or RMW continuous manufacturing process.
  • Fluency in English mandatory
  • Extensive overseas travel is an essential part of the role, up to 50% of work time away from home with a maximum duration of 4 weeks.
