Your team and your responsibilities:
**Team description**
The Legal and Compliance Team is a dynamic and internationally diverse team. It provides high quality advice to the management and the various business divisions of TME, as well as to its manufacturing and marketing affiliates in Europe. The team advises on a broad range of matters, including product liability, corporate law, privacy, IP (Intellectual Property) and IT law, brand protection, competition law, contract law, environmental law and regulatory matters.
The automotive industry is an exciting working environment which is undergoing major structural changes related to a.o. connected cars, autonomous driving, fuel cells, electric and hybrid vehicles or mobility as a service. This requires first class legal support and offers attractive opportunities for dynamic lawyers.
**Your responsibilities**
We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to support the following Divisions:
- Purchasing, which is responsible for supplier selection and procurement of raw materials and production parts for Toyota’s European manufacturing operations (TME has 8 manufacturing plants in 6 European countries). You will be the legal business partner for the Purchasing Division and provide legal support in suppliers selection and due diligence, negotiations, drafting of agreements and regulatory compliance, such as CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) or CSDDD (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive).
- Lexus Division, which is responsible for Toyota’s luxury and leading technology brand.. You will work closely with the business, be part of negotation teams and interact with suppliers, business partners and other third parties. The legal work touches upon a broad range of areas and, on top of negotiations and contract work, you will give regular trainings and monitor compliance.
Finally, you will support various projects and business development activities together with the other members of the Legal and Compliance Team. You will report to a Manager of the Legal and Compliance Division.
The automotive business is an exciting and rapidly changing environment which requires flexibility, strategic thinking and an ability to act swiftly and decisively in complex situations.
Your Profile:
- You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)
- You have a Masters degree in Belgian or similar law (German, French, Spanish, etc) and minimum 5 years of experience in an international law firm or as an in-house counsel in an international environment;
- You have excellent analytical, contract drafting and negotiation skills;
- You are solution oriented and have good business acumen;
- You are a team player and easily build good relationships with people across the organisation;
- You have the ability to comfortably operate in a consensus based work environment and you grasp and integrate multiple stakeholder interests;
- You are comfortable functioning in an international environment with colleagues from various backgrounds and regions;
- You are curious and interested in the business and operations of the sector;
- Knowledge of transport law (in particular inland and maritime law) is an asset.
