**ABOUT THE EUROPEAN MICROFINANCE NETWORK (EMN)**

EMN is a member-based not-for-profit organisation based in Brussels, which promotes microfinance as a tool to fight social and financial exclusion in Europe through self-employment and the creation of microenterprises. It is the network’s mission to facilitate capacity building and to advocate on behalf of the sector.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

EMN provides and coordinates a number of activities aimed at strengthening the capacity of its members with the ultimate purpose of reducing unemployment and supporting financial and social inclusion in Europe. EMN has a number of events that allow for members to learn state of the art practices, network, and hear about new EU initiatives. In order to successful run these events, EMN is looking for an Events Officer (EO).

**TASKS**

**Event Organisation**

The EO is responsible for the organisation and implementation of EMN's events, in particular but not limited to its Annual Conference and its Brussels-based event of the European Microfinance Day. The EO might be required to travel to the locations of various events in advance, in order to ensure the venue/location are suited to the requirements, as well as during the execution of the events.
- EMN Annual Conference_
A 2 to 3-day event in a different European city each year, with multiple activities spread over the days and with between 150-250 participants in attendance.
- Planning and creative design of the whole Annual Conference project including programme and activities, with technical content input from the rest of the team, as required. The EO will have an important and active voice in the conception and design of the conference.
- Implementing the partnership with conference hosts (usually members based in the country hosting the event) and local partners
- Supporting management in sponsorship sourcing activities to gather financial support from external sources (design of sponsorship packages and their perks, outreach to potential sponsors and follow-up until conclusion of agreement details).
- Coordinating and overseeing the logístical aspects of the organisation of the annual conference, including document preparation; budget preparation and monitoring; contract management (largely for venue sourcing and the sourcing and contracting of an external PCO); event execution; event reporting.
- Coordinating the work of the external PCO according to EMN’s requirements and management of the relationship with the chosen company.
- EMD Brussels Event_
A 0.5 or 1-day event in Brussels, with a short programme and between 50-100 participants.
- Collaborating with the Advocacy Officer and Communications Officer for the event design.
- Coordinating and managing the event organisation in Brussels, including logistics, registration, budget, event execution.
- Supporting national networks in the preparation of similar events in other countries

- Organisation of any ad-hoc events that might occur, that originate from EMN's advocacy, research, and representation activities, such as interviews, podcasts, performance, support to member events.
- Ensuring the proper procedural processes are observed for the organisation of all events, according to EMN’s policies.
- Maintaining, in collaboration with the Communications Officer and the rest of the team, a calendar of interesting industry events organised by EMN, by peer networks, by members and/or by policymakers. The aim of this calendar is to give visibility to events that can be of interest to EMN members, to seek ways to increase the impact of these events, and to keep a clear picture of event calendar to advise colleagues to minimise overlap with other sector activities.

**Horizontal tasks**
- Reporting on all aspects related to the previous tasks on a regular basis to line manager.
- Coordinating with EMN’s communications officer to ensure visibility and promotion of events, internal and external.
- Participating in the respective team meetings, trainings, and activities.

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and can evolve over the course of the contract. Further responsibilities will be mutually agreed upon between the employer and the EO.

**Skills and requirements**
- Working experience (2-5 years) as an events’ organiser in an organisation that has an Annual Conference or equivalent.
- Experience in coordinating the most common forms of events (e.g., panel discussions, keynote speeches, workshops, working groups, conference calls, etc), including the accompanying material support needed (registrations, speaker guidance, arranging audio-visual equipment, etc.)
- Basic working knowledge of communications (notably social media) are an asset
- Well-organised and innovative-thinking mind; openness to test new approaches and manage change
- Positive and direct communication skills, both verbally and written
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced e
